The University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers bow down to last year’s UAAP Season 75 five-peat champions the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 61-57, in their head-to-head match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum earlier.

Still without Captain Jeric Teng, the UST Growling Tigers struggled as they battled against the ADMU Blue Eagles.

The Eagles took control of the entire game without giving the Tigers a chance to take on the lead, but at 21.3 seconds left on the last quarter, the UST Tigers Co-captain Clark Bautista drained a triple to cut the lead to two at 59-57.

Ateneo’s rookie player Chris Newsome made a great play as he slammed the ball at 8:43 during the 3rd quarter.

The Tigers answered back during the 4th quarter with a grand slam at 6:05 on the clock and two three-pointer shots from Eduardo Daquioag.

Aljon Mariano led the España-based squad by churning 16 points into the basket.
