The Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines' 76th season dubbed as "Greatness Never Ends" has finally kicked off at the Mall Of Asia Arena last June 29.

This season's theme is to imply the league's commitment to continue its
legacy of bringing out future legends in Philippine Sports.

Fr. Gregg Banaga, president of this year's host Adamson University, declared the season open after the school legends Hector Calma and Kenneth Durembes passed on the torch to the athletes. Jericho Cruz, a basketball player of the Falcons, accepted the torch.

Adamson University prepared the Hunger-Games-inspired show to usher in the
beginning of the season of the undeniably popular collegiate sports competition in the country.

Performances from the participating schools (University of the Philippines, Far Eastern University, University of the East, Ateneo de Manila University, University of Santo Tomas, De La Salle University, National University, Adamson University) were tribal- and cirque-themed, with the dancers wearing costumes patterned after the looks of the characters from the book. The parade of student athletes representing their teams followed.

After the ceremony, the Men's Basketball competition has officially started with a clash between the FEU Tamaraws and UE Red Warriors.

Terrence Romeo and RR Garcia led the Morayta-based squad to its first win, clobbering UE 89-78.

In the second game of the season, the UST Growling Tigers, captained by Jeric Teng, clinched its first victory, with a 63-58 overtime win over the DLSU Green Archers.
