The people stand firm.  They want to have the pork barrel abolished.

The call for the scrapping of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel continues to draw support, this time, from the Philippine President’s “bosses.”

Widespread public clamour has been sparked by the alleged Janet Lim Napoles-led multi-billion peso scam that also involved some lawmakers who supposedly funnelled their PDAF to bogus non-government organizations.

Last August 26, thousands braved the rain warnings and gathered at Luneta for the anti-pork rally dubbed as Million People March.  Initiated by netizens, the event was attended by people from all walks of life, seeking to have the corruption-ridden pork barrel abolished.

While Luneta was packed with supporters of the social media-organized demonstration, Filipino-Americans in the United States also set their own protest rally in Washington, D.C.

Called EDSA Tayo, a mass gathering, where the number of participants turned out far from expected, was held at the EDSA Shrine in September 11.  It was the second anti-pork barrel rally since August 26.

Another protest promoting the public outrage over the misuse of the PDAF occurred on September 29 at Cebu.  At least 5000 people attended the gathering supported by Cebu Archbishop and outgoing Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines president Jose Palma.

A part two of the Million People March was held at Ayala in Makati last October 4. Anti-pork barrel advocates came together anew to restate the public’s demand over PDAF and now, the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).

The public has displayed their anger over the alleged scandalous and bold stealing of their money.  By organizing and participating in mass protests, the people show their unwavering demand to end the government officials’ abuse of money.
