Kabang, a hero dog whose snout and jaw was ripped of when she saved two girls from an accident, ended up in Davis hospital in 2012 after a fundraising campaign to bring her to the U.S. Veterinarians reached $27,000 through donation all around the world.
Kabang lost her snout and upper jaw in the incident in December 2011 in Zamboanga City, when the dog jumped into the path of a motorcycle to stop it from hitting Dina Bunggal, and 3-year-old Princess Diansing saving the lives of the owner’s daughter and niece.

Kabang was always a part of the family and was close to the family. “She is not just my friend, she is like a part of our family,” Dina said.

Kabang, a mother to six little puppies, had a rough start in life when Dina's father Rudy found her abandoned in a rice paddy and brought her home to fatten her up then eat the dog, but Dina and Princess convinced him keep Kabang as a pet – saving Kabang’s life from then on; after the heroic incident, it’s life for a life, a debt is repaid” moment.

Kabang was recognized as one of the most heroic dogs of 2012 and was also rightfully named the ambassador of “dog will” in Zamboanga. This incident can be a testimony that animals can feel, and does have a trait we Filipinos have: “utang na loob”.
