"Gone are the days when internet is only viewed as an  entertainment locus, but it has evolved as a platform for academic and political interaction."

Type. Click. Post. Interact. Share whatever you want and you can haply change the world!

“Blogging is a powerful avenue to influence. If you want your voice to be heard, if you want your writings to be read, blog,” John Emmanuel Ebora, known as juanrepublic urged, as he discussed his viewpoints on the power of posting ideas online.

Expressing all kinds of sentiments and thoughts online can actually have a larger impact not only toward  initial audience but to the world. With the quick flow of information, a collective goal can be obtained through a “collective action” even if it is a long shot, he said.

Known for his sociopolitical commentary and self– proclaimed “social pakielamero,” juanrepublic was steadfast when he said that blogging is an effective avenue to trigger a progressive development in society.

Like any other blogger, asked about why he blogs, John said, “I just want to express my thoughts at ayokong malimutan dahil these are precious ideas. Once na malimot na, wala na.”

He was satisfied to voice out his opinions, “bonus na kapag may feedback.” With enough responsibility and awareness, he empowers healthy interaction and healthy discussions online.

In public speaking, you cannot edit what you want to say to a barely concentrated audience. Online sharing With one share, it can reach a myriad of readers whom you can interact with.

the "juanrepublic"

John, 24, began his blogging career since 2001. He first embarked on literary bulletin board on Friendster and started sharing personal experiences and commentary. He was on his 6th year in the seminary when he started blogging.

In 2007, with “juanrepublic,” he started his formal career. Even when still young, he was already influenced  by his grandfather to be politically and socially aware. Most of his blogs tackled social issues on a national scale.  From practicing remarks and observation while watching TV patrol at home, he became much aware of how his views might actually make more sense if come noticed.

From Friendster, to Myspace, to Blogger, he rested on Tumblr. Now, expanding through wordpress along with other social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Formspring.

The year 2010 was the “glorious days” of Tumblr and the peak of his vogue. As more and more Tumblristas went on to different meet-ups and bond with other netizens, they seek more encounter for juanrepublic. With at least 35,000 followers, he was able to engage a public to a higher level of discourse.

However, in the coming of 2011, the quality of the content of the said site had diminished frustratingly. As he exclaimed that “Tumblr is dead,” he emphasized that content must not be compromised in blogging. Hardselling sometime degrades the content. For him, “low form ang entertainment (blogging) than information.”

who is a blogger

"Issue ito dati,” referring to the requirements on how to be a blogger. “Reposting, does it make you a blogger? If you create your own stuff and make your own craft, once you posted it, you are already a blogger, he explained.” There is no structured elements for you to be qualified as a blogger neither does it depend on popularity or in viewership.

The sole purpose of blogging is to treat it as your “hidden world” - you set your thoughts freely and responsibly. “Influence is just a bonus. Ang pinakagoal ko is to express myself. It’s a compliment if at least one responded,” he said.

Meanwhile he characterized what is an “influential blogger” for him. He said that being influential really depends on the audience. “Influential ang tao kapag may isang specific na grupo na sikat siya doon,” he said.

One can be influential to a certain extent only because it will always depend on your target readers. “Nakadepende ang popularity mo sa taste ng audience mo.” He suggested that for aspiring bloggers, one must talk about a certain genre of his interest and push for it. Later on, you can adjust to different genres, explore, make use of what’s your interest and not limit yourself with a tight kind of blogging.

One hardly blogs about the topic he himself is not interested to. He explained that the character of your blog really depends on your target audience. At present, the younger youth prefer more of an entertainment blogging with deluge of visuals. Unlike before, when the youth have a longer attention span, they persisted on reading political or social blogs. It really depends on readership and demographics.

As he concludes, he recommended the newbies to use wordpress, if they want to blog more of a serious content.
“Tumblr is not for long reads anymore. It’s for visuals,” he added.
