Before the coveted title Miss World 2013 was given to her, 23 year-old Megan Young was a lovely and sophisticated celebrity. She is an actress, model, VJ and now a beauty queen. Just like everybody, Megan’s road to success is not just overnight. It is the result of all her hard-work and patience. Yes, 2013 is her year but before she was hailed Miss World 2013, who is Megan Young? Do we all know her?

Megan Young auditioned for GMA-7’s defunct reality-artista search “ Starstruck: Season 2” back in 2004. She was part of Starstruck Final 6 but didn’t made it to the finals. Despite her loss, Megan was cast on GMA-7 shows like “Love to Love” (2005) and “Asian Treasures” (2005). Movies came in her way as she was part of romantic flicks “Lovestruck” (2005) and “Say that you love me” (2005). After becoming a kapuso artist, Megan made a big career decision and she transferred to GMA-7’s rival station, ABS-CBN.

She was then part of the station’s talent agency, Star Magic. The Kapamilya station gave her chance to showcase more her acting talent and this time, lead roles was given to her. She was the star of ABS-CBN’s “Star Magic Presents” (2007) and was part of “Kokey” (2007). Megan was also included in “I Heart Betty La Fea” (2008), “The Wedding” (2009) and “Rubi” (2010). Just last year, Megan was the leading lady of Zanjoe Marudo in “Hiyas” (2012). Her last TV show is for TV5’s recently-concluded “Misibis Bay” (2013). Alongside acting, she also did hosting stints via ABS-CBN’s Sunday variety show “ASAP” and as celebrity VJ for Myx Music Channel.

Last year, Megan decided to join Binibining Pilipinas 2013. However, her application was disapproved. The Binibing Pilipinas has a strict rule that their candidates should never posed sexy for a magazine. Megan Young appreared sexy as a covergirl for the March 2012 issue of Rogue Magazine. This didn’t stop her dream of being a beauty queen.

Megan wanted to pursue her dream of becoming a beauty queen that’s why she decided to join Miss World Philippines. Last August 18, 2013, Filipinos witnessed her crowning as Philippines representative for Miss World 2013. In an interview for GMA-7’s “24 Oras”, Miss World Chairperson Cory Quirino said Megan Young has a big chance of getting the Miss World crown. If Megan will win the crown, she will be the first Filipina to be crowned Miss World.

September 28, 2013 is a historical date for the world of beauty pageants and perhaps for us Filipinos. Miss World 2013 coronation night was held in Bali, Indonesia and out of 126 gorgeous candidates, only one name stood-out. She is no less than Miss Philippines Megan Young and now, newly-crowned Miss World 2013. First Princess is Miss France- Marine Lorphelin while Second Princess is Miss Ghana- Carranzer Naa Okailey Shooter. Even at the start of the pageant, Megan was a crowd-favorite based on the pageants poll-survey. She placed 4th in Multimedia while 5th for Beach Fashion categories.

Our candidate is not only beautiful but also intelligent and poised that was proven on the question and answer portion. The question for the six-finalists is “Why do you deserve to be crowned Miss World?” Megan Young confidently answered “ I treasure the core value of humanity and that guides her into understanding people , why they act the way that they do, how they’re living their lives. And I will use these core values in my understanding, not only in helping others, but to show other people how they can understand others, to help others. So that as one, together, we shall help society”.

This is one good news that needs to be proud of. May this help Filipinos to ease even a bit their problems and worries regarding bad news that is currenty circulating like the Zamboanga Crisis and Pork-barrel scam. Megan Young’s success also proves that you will never reach the top if you don’t know how to get to the top. One will never progress if you do not know how to help yourself.
