Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates “Soc” Villegas will spearhead this year’s Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) until the end of his term. Being the secretary of the late Jaime Cardinal Sin for twenty years, the 52-year-old bishop is expected to have the same charisma as his mentor; his peers hoping he would be able to tip the scales in favor of the Church as the country is slowly turning their backs in traditional ways.

To be a boxing champion holding eight titles is one thing to admire about Manny Pacquiao, but running for presidency is another.

We cannot hold it against the Pambansang Kamao if he aspires for greater and bigger things. Aspirations drive us to do better and be better. It drives us towards success even. But aspirations without the right vision will obviously get you lost. Even before Pacquaio became “The Champ,” he was winning and losing battles left and right. He climbed the ladder all the way to the top. Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. advised Pacquiao to get more training in the Senate first and I think that won’t do any harm. It’s useful even. As cliché as it may sound, experience is  the best teacher.
