Last-minute registrants gathered at the last day of voter's registration at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office in Arroceros, Manila on Wednesday, July 31.

Majority of them were youths who stayed overnight outside the Comelec office.

Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said by 2 p.m. the Comelec has registered more than 1.15 million would-be voters.

Earlier, Comelec said that they are expecting around two million new registrants for the coming SK elections on October.

Comelec Commissioner Sixto Brillantes Jr., however, said that they would not extend the registration period.

“There will be NO EXTENSION of the period for registration. Registration of voters ends today, July 31, 2013, at 5 p.m.”, he said in his Twitter account.
