Filipino marketing executive Jonathan Allen Yabut won in the first season of the reality series “The Apprentice Asia,” besting 11 other contenders from seven countries.

The 27-year-old product manager was “hired” by AirAsia group CEO Tony Fernandes for a year-long apprenticeship after besting 11 other Asian contestants.

Yabut, an Economics graduate of The University of the Philippines, was chosen by Fernandes over the Singaporean lawyer Andrea Loh Ern-Yu in the show’s final episode.

“The Apprentice Asia” is reality show based in the American series where in US mogul Donald Trump searches for hopeful applicants and hires the best as an apprentice.

Being the debut season winner, Yabut will be receiving a salary of $100,000 and is expected to move to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in two weeks to start the apprenticeship under the business tycoon.

Out of approximately 30,000 applicants to the reality show, only a dozen were qualified and among them are two Filipinos. 

The other Filipino participant, Celina Le Neindre, is a French-Filipina food and beverage consultant who was eliminated at the seventh episode of the show.
